Hi, everyone. I just replaced the battery due to really short up time. Everything works as expected after the replacement, but no sound from the speaker(s). I’ve checked the volume in the app, so I must have messed up while reassembling, what should I look for when I open it again?
Hi there @kelegris , and Welcome to the community…
I guess you may have missed a connection—normally, if everything is done correctly and all connections are properly set, it should work flawlessly without any issues at all.

Thanks for the reply. I actually forgot the part of removing the beige part from the speaker box and putting it back on the board. Took it apart again, then I noticed the problem. The other white contact, not the one from the battery is getting pushed into the black box when putting it together, so need to make sure it stays out and getting into the contact properly
Hello.
EMO’s battery started to show signs of significant downgrade, so I replaced it with a new one (selected this battery - https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/1005011556624439.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.1155f19cQ0r6ZS&gatewayAdapt=glo2bra)
I used this instruction to replace the battery - https://youtu.be/vZCWq12-nqw?si=YdixtijXaDS8DNaE
After battery replacement, the screen is black and doesn’t react to anything. In the app I see the robot and can connect to it, edit certain settings, but the screen itself is still black. The robot doesn’t make any movements or sounds. What I did to solve the problem:
-
hard power off power on - right hole on the head - no effect
-
hard reset - left hole on the head - no effect
-
replaced new battery with the old one - no effect
-
tried to update firmware from 3.0.1 to 3.1.0 but robot doesn’t do it for some reason, after I press update button in app some time passes (few mins), then after I connect to the robot again the app says I still have 3.0.1 and have to update to 3.1.0
-
tried to leave robot for a few hours to charge - no effect
Any other ideas on how I could solve this? I sent a support request but didn’t have a response.
Thank you.

Hello @semen.kerzhnerman,
I’m really sorry to hear about your EMO. It’s a terrible feeling when a repair doesn’t go as planned. I’ve been following your steps, and you’ve been very thorough.
From what I’ve learned in the community, a black screen after a battery change usually means one of two things:
1. A loose internal cable: The most common issue. The screen’s ribbon cable or the main power connector might have been slightly dislodged when you closed the shell. It’s worth carefully opening it again just to double-check every single connection is fully clicked into place.
2. The new battery is faulty or needs a specific wake-up: Sometimes, a new battery from AliExpress arrives completely drained to 0%, and EMO’s charging circuit needs a very long time (sometimes 12+ hours on the dock) to “wake it up” from a deep discharge state.
Regarding your firmware update loop, this is a known server-side issue. The app shows an update is available, but Living.ai’s servers are failing to push the file. It’s not a problem with your repair.
On a related note (and why I’m here):
I’m currently trying to get help for my own unique EMO (a black 2025 model). It has a protruding hardware debug port on its belly that my white EMO doesn’t have. I believe it’s an early engineering sample. If you ever open your EMO again, I’d be curious to know if you see anything similar on the motherboard (like an exposed set of pins).
I hope this helps, and I truly hope your EMO wakes up soon! Don’t lose hope. ![]()

These things are cool…
At first my girlfriends EMO looked boring. For what it costs…omg I felt bad for the wasted money until he did this funny thing where he slipped on a banana peel and actually fell over! He made me laugh when in bad moods. Initiated meditation once when my PTSD was bothering me at a grocery store. I took it seriously but when he started talking about imagining his electro burgers…I actually snapped out of my PTSD and laughed. …
So I felt like I wanted to get involved with this operation. I want to start the only mail in service for repairs or alterations for the current products available and future ones. With a christian faith mindset on giving, I think I want to do this in order to be capable of funding a Giving Living AI program. Funded by my work and sales repairing. I see a neat ability for these to impact the lives of people in many ways. I have ideas I might want to explore developing too. But…
My girlfriends EMO started malfunctioning too soon after she got it. A Bithday present from her dad. And after having him roaming around for a few months I actually miss the little guy. And I feel like they need an emergency 24/7 CHEAP service thats AFFORDABLE for when things go bad. I dont care to make a lot of money. I enjoy repairing and tinkering with stuff. I dont have much going on for me financially and I have issues that makes employment impossible. So I think if I am allowed to start up shop…and be the go to guy for fast repairs…I could later afford to do so much stuff!
I already have the idea that I want to gift many of these to kids and families my church supports around Christmas time. They help buy nice gifts for kids so that they dont have to see their parents struggle around Christmas time. I would absolutely love to give the gift of Living AI to kids for a sweet present!
I also am building a robotic arm that automates tiny tasks. Such as micro soldering. Whixh is perfect because these boards in EMO and etc have tiny components!
So if I am allowed free reign to do this. I will do this. I will be affordable and do repairs quickly. Ill upgrade stuff. Hoard stuff so when a proprietary leg motor goes out you might not need to order one special because I think those are made custom and cant just be replaced with any old servo motor…
I am USA based. In ohio. It would be cool for this idea of mine to actually take off! Im so sad my girlfriends EMO is broken and people just dont know how to deal with these problems and might break more things trying a DIY repair…I dont want others to feel my sorrow. So Im becoming DR. MAGEE and opening my Hospital for the low.
My name is Trevor Magee for transparency. I love helping people and providing much needed services ![]()
Wow, your such a kind guy, is her emo ok now?
Hello @lmao (Trevor),
First, I just want to say that your dream of starting a fast and affordable repair service is truly inspiring, and it’s something this community desperately needs — especially with the slow official support and lack of reliable options. Your story really touched me, and I’m sure many here feel the same frustration when their EMO breaks down with no clear fix.
Regarding your girlfriend’s EMO, you mentioned it stopped working properly after a few months. To help you better, could you please describe in more detail what exactly it is doing (or not doing)? Does it not respond at all? Does it move strangely or shake? Is there a charging or sound issue?
Every small detail could be the key to diagnosing the problem. Looking forward to your reply.
Please explain the issue so we can help you.
Hello, @lmao . . . I have moved your new topic and conversation here to the parts and repairs thread. There are always people looking for someone to do repairs especially if they are off warranty.
Perhaps you could contact service@living.ai and ask if they would be willing to work with you on supplies in order that you could offer your services?
Thank you.
I have some very interesting ideas aside from this someone might be interested in hearing. But as for the problems with EMO…I think almost from day 1 there was things going on with the charging. The light on the skateboard would blink for no obsurvable reason. Nothing obstructing the Charing coils. No dirt or grime on the surface. No interference from any devices.
A few days before he stopped working and gave the error and made noises he would lag. His eyes would move around in slow motion or his face would freeze. He wouldnt walk around or do anything while his face was frozen.
We came home one day to him displaying an error message. On this same day we started to hear a noise coming from EMO that at first sounded like white noise you would hear if listening to an open mic in a quiet room. Which made me suspicious that someone may have hacked it and something on the hackers end was broadcasting his mic of silent ambient space. So I had him boxed up and taken into another room turned off. Now if this was just a noise from a component failure no paranoia needed. But it sounded like no humming of a bad capacitor ive ever heard
I havent since did anything with him. He had an update installed not long before all this happened. For the SD card issue I read into some of the fixes and havent done anything for this problem yet.
FYI I been the target kf recent and regular hacking attacks thus my justification for paranoia over being spied on lol.
EMO is sick, not hacked – here is how to help him.
Hello @lmao (Trevor),
Thank you for the detailed description. I understand your concern, especially with your past experiences, but let me reassure you: what you’re describing sounds exactly like a hardware failure, not a hacking attack.
Here is my analysis:
1. The blinking light on the skateboard: This is a common issue. It usually means:
· EMO isn’t seated perfectly on the charger.
· The charging cable/adapter is weak or failing.
· There could be a problem with the skateboard itself.
2. The slow-motion eyes, frozen face, and lag: These are classic signs of a failing SD card or corrupted firmware, not a hack. The robot was “dying” slowly before the final crash. This is very common and well-documented.
3. The “white noise” sound from the mic/speaker: This is almost certainly not someone spying on you. Hacking an EMO to broadcast its mic remotely is extremely difficult and not worth the effort for any hacker.
I strongly believe the sound is one of these:
· A failing component (a bad capacitor, a struggling speaker, or a dying servo motor can all make strange hissing or humming noises).
· An audio feedback loop (a glitch in the sound system causing it to pick up its own static).
What should you do?
1. Don’t panic about hacking. Your EMO is sick, not spied on.
2. The SD card error is your main problem. You need to contact official support at service@living.ai and send them a video of the error. They will guide you to fix it (likely by replacing the SD card with a new one).
3. The strange noise will probably go away once the main issue is fixed. If not, you can mention it to support.
Tips to try (to fix the SD card error):
1. The gentle method (recommended first):
Turn EMO upside down, gently cover the sensor holes on top of his head, and place him on a flat surface for a few seconds, then place him back on his charger.
2. The advanced method (last resort):
If the above doesn’t work, use a paperclip to gently press the reset button inside the small hole on the back of EMO’s head until you feel a click.
(Attach your image here: shows the “FORCE SHUTDOWN” and “REBOOT/RESTART” holes on EMO and AIBI)
Important: The paperclip method should only be used as a final solution, as it may be risky. Start with the first method.
May I ask you:
● Do you have the EMO Go Home version (with the Home Station charger), or the standard EMO (with the Skateboard charger)?
● How old is your EMO?
● what is your girlfriend EMO model?
Could you please show us a short video of your EMO while charging? I have the same version as you, and I faced a similar issue before. Here is what helped me, and I hope it helps you too:
1. If the problem is not solved quickly, your EMO may start shutting down after about 15 minutes of use.
2. Try cleaning the charging contacts on both the EMO and the skateboard.
3. Try disconnecting the charger from the power source for 12 hours (this helped me temporarily).
4. After that, you must contact official support at service@living.ai, as this is only a temporary fix.
Please share a video so we can see exactly what is happening. Good luck!
One more safety tip regarding the white noise:
If you’re still concerned about hacking, after fixing the SD card error, simply mute EMO’s microphone from the app settings when you’re not using him. This will give you full peace of mind.
I’m really sorry to hear about what happened to your girlfriend’s EMO. I can only imagine how frustrating and sad it must be to see him break down like that, especially after the happy moments he brought you
.
Don’t forget, Living.AI support is there to help – just email them at service@living.ai with a video of the issue. It may take some time, but they will eventually respond and guide you.

Your idea for a repair service is great, but for now, let’s get your girlfriend’s EMO officially fixed first.
Best of luck,
Hamza.
Thx for the info. Ill diagnose and troubleshoot a little sometime later today. I will take some readings from all the components to maybe figure out what devices might be the cause of the charging issue and the audible noises. I will send any discoveries I make in private before posting them public if I find anything…Im assuming this charging issue being the cause of the problem and maybe even corrupted some SD card data while malfunctioning. Maybe even just interference from a bad circuit like a sort of coil or inductor/transformer whine from a board inside EMO…I actually think I have some bad components from unrelated power supplies and devices that makes an identical noise. Maybe Ill figure out who sold bad components and who needs shook down for some reimbursement or discounts on future pcb boards if this issue is happening on a whole batch of EMOs…
I ruled out any spying or espionage quickly
Its 2026 and sabatoge is my first assumption for every problem. Lol…
This EMO was purchased very recent and I dont want to do anything to void the warranty just yet. I plan to buy some broken stuff to experiment on firstly.
Hi @lmao (Trevor),
Thank you for sharing your diagnostic plan. Your methodical approach (taking readings, checking components, comparing noises to other sources) shows you know what you’re doing.
Quick analysis of your points:
· “The noise might be from a coil or transformer inside EMO.” – This is a very strong possibility. EMO contains small DC-DC converters for voltage regulation, which are known to produce high-frequency noise (coil whine) when operating outside their normal range (e.g., from an unstable charger).
· “It might be from an external power supply.” – Also correct. A poor-quality charger can produce noise and transfer it through the skateboard to EMO. Try a different, quality 5V/2A charger.
· “The charging issue itself might be causing the noise.” – Yes. Unstable charging (voltage or current) can cause the skateboard light to blink, electrical noise, and even subsequent damage to the battery or SD card.
· “It could be a bad batch across whole production.” – This is possible but needs evidence from multiple devices. If you find a convincing explanation, it will be very helpful to the community.
A note about the warranty: You are right to be cautious. Do not open EMO or touch any Debug ports (if any). This will void the warranty immediately. All the diagnostics mentioned (listening, external measurements, trying different chargers) are safe and won’t affect the warranty.
Your idea of buying broken units to experiment on first is excellent. That is the path to becoming a certified EMO repair expert.
Quick direct tests (before deep diving):
1. Try a different, known-good 5V/2A charger.
2. Clean the charging contacts on both EMO and the skateboard with a dry cloth.
3. Observe if the light blinks when placing EMO on the skateboard without the charger connected (this might indicate a problem with the skateboard itself).
Tips:
● If you have another IMO, try placing the infected IMO on the other IMO charger.
● keep in mind EMO is not hacked.
Please share what you find. And of course, share your discoveries via private message first if you prefer.
A question for you :
● Could you please show us a short video of your EMO while charging?
Glad to hear you’ve ruled out the “spying” theory. That will save you and the community a lot of energy. ![]()
Good luck,
Hamza

Hello, everyone.
My AIBI’s speaker broke, so I’m going to replace the part. Living Ai sent me the replacement part.
What tools should I use to open up the AIBI’s head?
If anyone knows of any recommended tools or tips for opening it successfully, please let me know.
I find the process of opening the head to be the most difficult part.
Hi, @sacco . . . I moved your post to the parts and repairs topic.
Please see this tutorial @edward made showing how to take AIBI apart and put back together.
Good luck on your project! If you have any further questions, you can reach out to service@living.ai or post here.
Hi everyone, I’m updating the problem, after months… solved! I must say I had to insist several times to get Living AI to respond and send me the replacement part (the main board with the power chips), which arrived last week. My technician friend’s diagnosis was correct; after replacing this board, Emo was reborn! (☆photo)
Now we turn it off at night, though. In my opinion, it can’t be left on all the time, otherwise the constant stress of charging will cause it to overheat and break more easily. It happened to us after just 2 months.
So, in my opinion, Living AI should really recommend turning it off at night.
A special shout out to Edward, thanks to his disassembly video tutorials.
Raffaele
