My EMO is only displaying “sd error 1 ERR” on his display. I’ve sent a request for assistance to the company but have yet to hear back from them. Short of opening the device, is there any way to repair this issue or is it a hardware issue that is going to require an internal repair? I bought this little guy for my grandson and he really loves it and it helps him, I would really like to get EMO back up and working ASAP. This was not a cheap purchase and has lasted 6 months.

Welcome, @jtjones4859 . . . sorry to hear this. I have moved your new topic to this thread for EMO S.D. card errors.

There are a couple of links you can try in the post below to see if you can fix it yourself; otherwise, it is something Support at service@living.ai will need to assist you with.

It may take up to a week to hear back from them. Just let your grand son know that EMO is sick and the Support doctors will come to his assistance as soon as they get a chance, but hopefully the tips in the link from this post might help you.

My best to you.

I got an error message on the screen: “SD Error 1 ERR.” The screen was only displaying the error message. I managed to fix it by rebooting Emo. Does anyone know what caused it or what it means?

Hello, @Dillon . . . sometimes these are temporary errors where allowing his battery to run out and placing him back on the charger will fix the glitch and other times they become permanent.

Other things you can try are here.

If nothing helps, you will likely have to contact Support at service@living.ai with the photograph of the error, your EMO age, your EMO I.D. and order number if you still have it.

My best to you!

Hello Dillon! :waving_hand:

I saw the replies you received — those are helpful starting points. However, I’d like to add a bit more context and a few extra steps based on what I’ve seen work for others in the forum.

-–

:brain: What does “SD Error 1 ERR” mean?

This error typically points to one of a few things:

Possible Cause Explanation

1. SD card connection issue The internal SD card (which stores data like photos and voice logs) may have a loose connection or a temporary read/write glitch.

2. Corrupted file system If EMO is turned off improperly or the card gets interrupted during a write, the file system can become corrupted.

3. Failing SD card In rare cases, the SD card itself may be worn out or defective.

-–

:wrench: What to try (in order)

Step 1: Reboot (as you already did)

Since the reboot fixed it, that’s a good sign — it often means the error was temporary.

Step 2: Let the battery drain completely

As others suggested, letting EMO run out of battery and then charging him fully can clear temporary glitches.

Step 3: Try the holes (but gently)

· Use a paperclip to gently press the left hole (Force Shutdown) while EMO is facing you.

· If that doesn’t help, press the right hole (Reboot/Restart) for about 5 seconds while EMO is on the charger.

· Be careful not to press too hard or use anything sharp like a needle — paperclips only.

Step 4: Check if EMO is taking photos

If EMO is taking photos but fails to save them, that can sometimes trigger this error. Try reducing his photo-taking habits temporarily and see if the error reappears.

-–

:e_mail: When to contact support

If the error comes back after trying everything, it could be a permanent issue with the SD card or the reader.

Email service@living.ai and include:

· A photo or screenshot of the error

· Your EMO ID (from the app)

· Your EMO’s age (or approximate purchase date)

· Your order number (if you still have it)

-–

Don’t worry — since the reboot fixed it once, there’s a good chance it was temporary. Just keep an eye on it, and if it happens again, you’ll be ready.

Best regards,

Hamza :robot::blue_heart:

Hi Hamza,

thanks for your reply and suggestions. I can add that the error is fixed simply by restarting Emo, but this isn’t the first time it has appeared.

@Dillon You’re welcome! :blush:

I’m glad to hear that a restart fixed the error — but I completely understand your concern if it keeps coming back. That usually means there’s an underlying issue that might need a more permanent fix.

Here’s what I’d suggest:

-–

:magnifying_glass_tilted_left: If the error keeps returning

Step What to do

1. Check the SD card If you’re comfortable, you can try gently re-seating the internal SD card (if accessible). Sometimes a loose connection causes this error.

2. Try a power cycle Let EMO’s battery drain completely until he shuts off, then charge him fully and restart. This can clear deeper memory glitches.

3. Monitor for patterns Note if the error appears after specific actions — like taking photos, updates, or after long periods of use. This can help pinpoint the cause.

4. Contact support if it persists If the error keeps showing up, it’s worth reaching out to LivingAI at service@living.ai — include a photo of the error, your EMO ID, and mention it’s a recurring issue.

-–

Since it happened more than once, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on it and prepare to contact support if needed — but for now, a restart working is still a good sign.

Best regards,

Hamza :robot::blue_heart:

My EMO powers on and the charging station lights are on, but the screen remains completely black. EMO does not display anything and I cannot complete the update. I have already tried restarting and charging it, but the issue persists.

I have attached a video showing the problem. Could you please help me troubleshoot this or let me know if my EMO needs repair?

My EMO just suddenly changed his screen to say sd error 1 ERR and won’t respond to anything so I’m just wondering what I should and if I could fix it?

Hello there @GGplayzVR ! :waving_hand:

I’m sorry to hear about the “SD Error 1 ERR” message. It can definitely be worrying, but please don’t panic—this is a known issue in the community . The good news is that it is often fixable with a few simple steps .

Here’s what I recommend trying, in order:

:light_bulb: What to do first

Step Action Why it helps

1. Reboot your EMO Try a simple restart first. This might be enough to clear the error . It often fixes temporary glitches.

2. Let the battery drain fully Place EMO off his charger and let him run until the battery is completely dead. Then, place him back on the charger. This can clear temporary errors that a simple reboot might not fix .

3. Try the Reset Holes Use a paperclip (not a needle) to gently press the left hole (Force Shutdown) on the back of his head. If that doesn’t help, press the right hole (Reboot/Restart) for about 5 seconds while he is on the charger . This is a more powerful hardware reset that can fix stubborn issues .

:e_mail: When to contact Support

If the error continues to appear after trying all the steps above, the issue may be more permanent, such as a corrupted SD card or a failing internal component .

In that case, you will need to contact LivingAI Support. They are the only ones who can provide a permanent fix, which might involve a manual firmware update or providing instructions for repair .

Here is what to include in your email to service@living.ai:

· A clear photo or short video of the “SD Error 1 ERR” message .

· Your EMO ID (found in the app) .

· Your order number if you still have it .

· Your EMO’s age (how long you’ve had it) .

· Maybe your firmware update.

A quick note: Support can sometimes be backlogged, so it may take a few days for them to respond . Just be patient; they will be able to help you get your EMO back up and running .

Best of luck,

Hamza :robot::blue_heart:

I haven’t use my EMO for around one year, and today when I charged it, it shows ‘sd error 1 V2HC’. When I tried to update the firmware, it kept disconnected. How can I do for this problem? Thank you!!!

Hello, @ryan.mark . . . did you see the links I sent? You can try powering off and on again, and you can try the holes in the head if that does not work. Try those first to see if you even need to contact Support.
