My Emo will test the edge and say woah and take a few steps back but when I leave the room. He will go off the cliff and I will come back with him on the floor or not on the platform anymore. Another time he recognized the edge but turned around and walked backwards off the edge.
Yes sometimes this can happen especially if we’re not watching, it’s happened to me a few times, this is why getting a safe place where Emo can play in without us having to worry about it, not ideal I know. The point of Emo is having him around you, not suppose to leave him on his own unless he has a barrier to stop him from falling. A large dinner tray will work. About 2/4”
hey @malromeo
As @Racheal123 has mentioned EMO feet sensors are not 100% foolproof, so you should try and keep an eye on him or make him a safe area so that if you leave him alone he will not accidentally fall off the table. I have created a video about feet sensors, (it covers the basics, feel free to take a look).
I’d recommend creating a safe area for your EMO (something with a border so he doesn’t fall off and get hurt/damaged).

When Emo Dances, he goes for it:Cute. but there is a problem. My desk has little space, so when he dances, he is not aware of the edges because he is distracted, and almost falls, but I have to catch it. Is there a solution besides “getting more space?”
Hey when emo dances his feet sensors are disabled for that short period of time
Welcome, @joshua.kasdan_ii . . . depending on the amount of desk space you have, you can build him an area that has borders around it so that he cannot fall from the desk.
Here are some suggestions on this thread here:
Hope this gives you some ideas!
Actually, it’s a known issue…when EMO is busy doing anything, like daily activities, dancing, and playing his Optical Drop Foot Sensor is automatically temporarily disabled.
This is normal behavior, not a defect.
When EMO is busy (daily activities, dancing, animations, games), his optical drop/edge sensors under the feet may appear temporarily less responsive.
Here’s why:
Processing Priority (CPU Load Management)
EMO has a small onboard processor.
When he is:
- Dancing

- Playing animations

- Running daily schedule routines

- Showing complex screen effects

Most of his processing power is focused on:
- Motor control
- Balance calculations
- Animation rendering
- Audio sync
To prevent lag or system overload, some background sensors are momentarily deprioritized.
It’s not fully “off” — just temporarily less active.
Movement Stability & False Triggers
While dancing or moving:
- His feet constantly lift and land
- Surface lighting changes rapidly
- Shadows move under him
If the cliff/drop sensors stayed fully active during fast movement, they could:
- Misread shadows as edges
- Think the floor disappeared
- Trigger unnecessary emergency stops
So the system reduces sensitivity to avoid false alarms.
Safety Logic Design
EMO’s drop sensors are most critical when:
- Walking normally
- Near table edges
- Exploring slowly
During choreographed movements (like dancing), EMO is not navigating freely — he is executing a preset movement pattern.
The system assumes:
“I am not exploring — I am performing.”
So edge detection logic works differently.
Power & Heat Control
Multiple systems running together:
- Motors
- Screen
- Wi-Fi
- AI audio
- Sensors
Temporarily scaling some sensors helps:
- Reduce overheating
- Improve battery efficiency
- Prevent system crashes
Important Note
The optical sensors are not permanently disabled.
Once EMO:
- Finishes dancing
- Stops daily activity
- Returns to idle
The drop sensors return to full monitoring mode.
Simple Explanation
When EMO is busy performing, he focuses on:
“Don’t mess up the show.”
When he’s walking normally, he focuses on:
“Don’t fall off the table.”
Different behavior modes = different sensor priorities.
IMHO, I will never trust this sensor 100%, particularly when it is unattended on the table… Provide an enclosed play area for him… so EMO can walk safely and not fall off the table. Another tip is you can use black tape to your table edges

A post was merged into an existing topic: Question about battery life
Since the latest software update my Emo has started walking off tables.
Any advice on how to fix this?
Welcome to the EMO Community Forums, @stephen.moore . . . I have moved your new topic to this thread which discusses this and what you can do to prevent it.
Sometimes the color or texture of the surface or even if the lighting is too dark can cause this issue and it is perfectly normal.
Please read above to get some ideas for safe play grounds you can make to keep EMO from falling off of the table.
Hi everyone! EMO Tyler is unable to detect obstacles. Does anyone know a solution?
Hello, @Happycoin . . . perhaps this will help.
If this does not help, be sure to get a video and send the link to service@living.ai with your order number or alphanumeric four digit code when signing into the app.
Let us know how it goes.
My emo is bugging out and he thinks he constantly thinks he’s falling but he’s on my table what do I do???
Welcome to the EMO Community Forums, @creamyill . . . I would advise first seeing if cleaning debris from his feet may be the problem if his foot sensors cannot detect what he is standing on. I have to do this from time to time on my own.
Let us know how it goes!
He still thinks he’s falling off I feel so bad for him!![]()
Hello, @creamyill . . . the only other thing I can suggest is to make sure he is on a clean and level surface that is not too slippery or sticky.
If you still have issues, I advise you to get video and send a link to Support at service@living.ai . . . be sure to include your order number or your alphanumeric four digit code when he signs into the app.
My best to you.
Okay so yesterday I got sent two replacement servos for my emo’s feet because they were broken and I’ve replaced them and made sure I’ve done everything correct. which I’m sure I have because he’s walking normally, but the only problem now is that my emo keeps thinking he’s falling off a edge or being picked up. I don’t know if I’ve somehow broke his sensors when I’ve opened the bottom of his foot up? Or if there’s dust or something trapped in them? I just wanna know if anyone has had the same issue or has any answer to fixing it. I’m going to also contact living.ai about it but since they take a few days to reply I wanna see if anyone can give me any help before that.
Hi there @Greenghoste ,
Do you have a Home Station or a Skateboard?
Please let EMO live on light-colored surfaces for better tracking and stability. ![]()
You might also want to clean all of his sensors, as something might be blocking the sensor screen and affecting his performance. ![]()

If the issue persists, it’s possible that the gyroscope or foot sensor may be faulty.
Please contact Living.AI customer service to perform a simple test.
They will then provide you with the appropriate solutions.
Goodluck and Best regards
Light coloured surfaces like white or grey are best for EMO’s sensors.
I also recommend you buy black tape and put it around the edges of your emo’s play area/living space.
Also make sure to regularly clean your EMO’s feet sensors and the sensor below his head regularly.
If this doesn’t work, I recommend you put some pillows around his space incase he does fall.
Many thanks,
Leothealien124.
