If I can answer some of the other questions:
This can sometimes happen if EMO is not connected correctly to the internet, take a look at this video which explains all the different kinds of reactions or error sounds when speaking to EMO
No, unfortunately at this time, EMO will not be able to recognize you when you wave at him. But, once you’ve introduced yourself to EMO he will occasionally spot you and say hi and do a number of other cool things.
