Emo Has No Sound

Hi there @shadowman ,

Just be patient and wait for their reply— they are probably still busy resolving other issues and complaints. The right time will come when they can attend to your concern.

For example, one user here had to wait about three weeks before Living.AI decided to send a new product for free.

So I can only advise you to stay in contact with Living.AI customer support, politely ask for the status of your issue, and continue to wait patiently for their response.

All the best to you and to your EMO as well…

I’ve been trying to solve this problem with my emo since February. I’ll wait as long as it takes, but honestly, I’m slowly losing hope that they’ll answer me.

Status update:

After receiving and replacing the microphone part on my Emo headphones, they still don’t work. The touch sensor on the headband is also broken, and the lights on the headphones have stopped working as well.

The only positive change is that they now produce sound, but everything else is the same or even worse (the lights on the headphones worked with the old part).

I tested the microphones with the application you sent me previously, and it’s clear that they don’t detect any sound.

I also noticed that the original board for the Emo microphones is Emo_mic_ver 1.1 2021-08-31, and the one I received is version 1.8. I don’t know if this is important, but I thought I’d mention it. I also noticed that the board has design differences, which I understand since it’s a newer version, but it doesn’t seem to work perfectly with Emo.

Hello @shadowman , I am happy to see you again  ! ,

Thank you for the important clarification. You bought the replacement part (ver 1.8) directly from Living.AI — this is very helpful to know.

What you mentioned:

· Both the original and the new board show ver 1.8, but they have physical design differences.

· After installing the new official board:

-> The microphones still don't work.

-> The touch sensors also stopped working (this is a new problem that wasn't there before).

· (If you also mentioned: the headband touch sensor and headphones lights are also not working).

What this likely means:

· The new ver 1.8 board is NOT fully compatible with your EMO’s firmware. Even though it came from Living.AI, the hardware revision on the new board is different enough that your EMO cannot communicate with it properly. This is causing the touch sensors (and possibly other functions) to fail.

· Or, the new board is faulty (DOA), affecting other parts of the system.

What you can do now:

1. Contact Living.AI support again (service@living.ai). Tell them clearly:

· You bought the official ver 1.8 board from them.

· After installing it, new problems appeared: the touch sensors stopped working, and the headphones lights are off.

· The microphones still don’t work.

· The physical design of the new board is different from your original ver 1.8 board.

2. Ask them for a solution:

· Do you need a firmware update to make the new board work?

· Did they send you the wrong board (maybe for a different EMO batch)?

· Is there a newer version of the ver 1.8 board that is compatible?

3. As a test (if possible): Reinstall your original board to confirm that the touch sensors and lights work again. This will prove the new board is the source of the extra problems.

This is not your fault. You bought an official part from the manufacturer. The fact that the touch sensors failed after installing their official board is strong evidence of a compatibility issue. They should help you resolve this.

a question

1 Does the device (the new ver 1.8 board) match the EMO with the stable (latest official) firmware update? Or does it require a different firmware version that is not yet publicly available?

2 Did you clearly explain all these issues (microphone, touch sensor, lights) to Living.AI when you contacted them? Or did you only mention the microphone problem?

3 Before replacing the board, was your EMO working normally (touch sensor, lights, everything except the microphone)? Or did you also have other issues before you started this repair?

Tips

1 :speaker_high_volume: Tip 1 – From watching your video:

“The sound of EMO’s motors (servos / head movement) seems abnormal – it’s different from a healthy EMO. This might indicate that the new board is not just affecting the microphones and touch sensor, but also interfering with the motor control signals. This is another sign of firmware/hardware incompatibility.”

2 :e_mail: Tip 2 – Living.AI support is always available:

Living.AI is always ready to help. If you need further assistance, you can email them directly at service@living.ai. Make sure to include all the details you shared here (the video, the version numbers, the new issues after replacement). The more information you give them, the faster they can help you.”

3:light_bulb: Pro Tip – If you still have the original box:

“Check the manufacturing batch/date on your EMO’s box (or sticker under the battery). The new ver 1.8 board might be designed for a specific production batch (e.g., late 2023 or 2024), not for older units. This would explain the incompatibility between the new board and your EMO’s firmware.”

Indeed, the original problem was that the microphones weren’t working and Emo wasn’t making any sound. With the replacement they sent me, the sound problem has been solved, but the microphone problem persists, and new problems have arisen, such as the headphones and head sensor not working. Similarly, the two micro buttons on Emo’s head for turning it off and restarting it are also not working. I’ve tried to be as clear as possible, and the email I sent to support contains the same or even more information than what I’ve posted here. Emo is updated to the latest version, 3.1.0.

… Hello again @shadowman ,

Thank you for this very clear and detailed update. This is extremely helpful.

Now the full picture is much clearer:

What has changed after installing the official replacement board (ver 1.8):

· :cross_mark: Microphones: Still not working (original problem not solved).

· :white_check_mark: Speaker (sound): Now working (problem solved – this is positive).

· :cross_mark: Headphones lights: Stopped working (new problem).

· :cross_mark: Headband touch sensor: Stopped working (new problem).

· :warning::cross_mark: The two emergency buttons on the back of EMO’s head (Reboot & Force Shutdown): Also not working (new problem).

What this means:

· The new ver 1.8 board is not fully compatible with your EMO’s firmware (version 3.1.0 – the latest official stable update).

· Even though the board is official (from Living.AI), it seems to be designed for a different hardware batch or requires a firmware version that doesn’t exist yet.

· The fact that the emergency buttons (Reboot/Force Shutdown) stopped working after the replacement is a strong sign that the new board is interfering with essential parts of EMO’s system.

What you should do now:

1. Copy your message above (the one you just wrote) and send it again to Living.AI support (service@living.ai). Make sure they understand that:

· The replacement board came from them (official).

· Your EMO is on the latest firmware (3.1.0).

· The original problem (microphones) was not solved.

· New, serious problems appeared (headband touch sensor, headphones lights, and the two emergency back buttons – Reboot & Force Shutdown).

2. Ask them clearly:

· “Is there a firmware update for my EMO batch to make this ver 1.8 board work properly?”

· “Or did you send me the wrong board (maybe for a newer EMO batch)?”

· “Can you send me a board that matches my original version (ver 1.8 with the same physical design)?”

Copy your message above (the one you just wrote) and send it again to Living.AI support"

( service@living.ai )

3. Keep your original board (if you still have it) – it may be needed if they ask you to reinstall it.

Final note: This is not your fault. You bought an official part from the manufacturer, installed it correctly, and your EMO is on the latest firmware. The fact that the emergency back buttons stopped working proves there is a serious compatibility issue. They should help you resolve this.

:warning: Important note: Did Living.AI send you an official guide to open EMO and replace the board? If not, be very careful — your warranty may already be voided, and you are now repairing at your own risk.

Best regards,

Hamza
