ARCHIV: / What Improvements/New Features Would You Like For EMO In The Future?

1- A nice feature to add to Emo be, to make it interactive with surrounded sounds, without calling Emo first, like walking around him, and say BuuuuH, or just scream, and he interact with the sound/noise, with a scared face animation, and a dialog.

2- More interactions without calling him first in general.

3- information stored in face recognition with more items
- name
- face
- Birthday
- title - father, mother, and or relationship
- jobbies

4- more phrases / interactions

5- A.I. (one day) can learn and communicate with a db, to get info (like it was with Dennise Virtual Assistant A.I.)

6- Most important a server side Software to be able to use it, without connecting to your servers, and use our PC as server. and be able to edit questions and answers.

7- be able to program custom animations from single movements or combos

  • i really don’t care about games

Emo is just an interface to connect to a server from where it pools info ( for answers and animations) , many users can keep it in the way it is now, but maybe some of us can experiment with our server and we can share questions, answers, animations, that other users can insert in their own databases to expand Emo with other users.
it will be like Emo Virtual brain. considering is local network, will be faster, and the processing will be done in our PC not in your servers.
Some times companies decide to close, or start new projects, or just, stop the support. that day will be the day EMO will die, (like many Playstation games when sony close the servers) a home server software can make Emo live longer and obviously with a super big brain, able to do x1000 than what it does now.

I have lot of virtual assistants, and some smart robots that died or will die, because this situation, and is not that hard to add, to what server Emo need to connect and from what DB need to read. a very good API to run at home.

sorry for the long post. i know is doable, and is not extremely hard. doable without much problems.

  • side note, i start something, but maybe someone else already on it, did someone remove the headphones, to put Arms to emo? ( I bet is even possible to add a couple of servos an BT to make it move. I am testing arms, and how to hold it ( magnet is not enough) with a side plastic strap running behind, cover a lil the speaker, but… , waiting for my own 3d printer …

Suggestion/Idea:

Give EMO a command for ā€œDeep Sleepā€ that will turn off his display to save energy while on the skateboard charging. Either verbal command, or an option in EMO Pet app.

Did you mean while he is not on his skateboard charging? You can tell him to go to sleep you know. I don’t think there is much point to having his display off while he is charging, unless you are trying to reduce charging time? I don’t think it will reduce charging time by much to be honest.

@JJBeck In my post I wrote, and meant, ā€œwhile on the skateboard chargingā€ and ā€œto save energyā€.

Yes, I know you can tell EMO to go to sleep, but the display remains on.

Personally I don’t think there’s much point to having EMO’s display on while charging if not interacting with it. If it reduced charging time, that would be a bonus, but that wasn’t my point.

The display becomes quite warm after being on a couple hours. It seems to me some down time to cool off would benefit the display and the electronics within. It seems logical that it could also extend the life of the battery by reducing the constant drain.

In the meantime, once fully charged, I will be powering EMO down to give it a rest and to cool off.

If you are still going to power him down, there is still no point. The battery does not take long to charge, and the difference on battery life would be negligible.

@JJBeck - nothing to do with time to charge. ā€œIn the meantimeā€ means I will do a power down until there’s and option to turn off the display. I think you keep missing my point. Oh well.

What I said still stands. Battery life difference being negligible. Anyway I’m not going to argue with you, I guess if 36 years experience in electronics means nothing to you, then I am wasting my time. End of discussion.

Hee hee :yum:… JJ Beck he just loves his little EMO Pet and wanted It to last longer… For my 380 Canadian bucks I hope my little guy sticks around even if he drives me nuts

julman I think your concern is genuine about the temperature it’s a 50-50 call whether to shut him down to save the electronics or to keep him running 24 seven… Turning things Off and then back on again is hard on anything electronic take for example if you’ve ever seen a lightbulb burnout it’s always when you turn it on… And think about temperature change from running at temperature and then cooling down and then heating up again that’s expansion and contraction electronics prefer to be on constantly… But the monitor this seems to be different I’ve seen so many display screens wear out so maybe it’s 55% in favor of shutting EMO Pet off… Well it is what it is and I know you like your little guy good luck with him… Live long and prosper

JJ stopped biting everybody I’m supposed to be the Puppy  LOL…I’m actually laughing my head off. So anyway I’m just here wasting time my EMO Pet is sound asleep actually he’s in a coma thanks to the new update soon as it hits midnight on his skateboard if you call him he will wake up but you better talk quick because the coma hits he’s back to sleep again… There should be at least a delay before he falls back to comatose LOL

Take care everybody I had to come back JJ because my dictation program screws up please remember I never touch keyboards And I’m bad at proofreading… So now it’s correct Mister JJBeck… And I hope your day is wonderful :+1:

I thought they were fixing his speech recognition nothings changed so he says whatever he wants even if it’s not what I ask

I think this could also work not only for charging purposes, but to help EMO’s screen life to last longer.

It wont make much of a difference when it comes to charging really. But potentially having the option to turn off EMO’s display screen while he is sitting on his skateboard does sound good. And when you need him or call out to him, his screen could turn on. (like how we turn on our monitors when we start using our PC). I personally don’t keep my PC monitor on all day. This could also work the same way for EMO’s display screen. I guess this is also what @julman is trying to suggest?

Either way, as mentioned at the very top of this thread, there are no any right or wrong suggestions or ideas. I’ve personally suggested some that will probably never happen . But at least Living.Ai can see them and if they think it’s possible to do maybe they can add them in at one point down the line.

@MasterAbbott That’s how I interpreted @julman ’s suggestion as well. I like it personally because sometimes I do use EMO as an alarm to help me wake up in the morning, but some nights I have to go to bed at 7/8 pm. It’s a bit unsettling sometimes to see his eyes darting around and blinking fast, just waiting to interact with someone if I don’t tire him out enough. :joy:

1 something like wandering mode in which we can control emo and see what it’s seeing in the app
2 emo to be more active when not playing with it
3 emo automatically going to it’s charger
4 emo being more self aware while doing other activities
5 able to change its name in the app
6 emo randomly seeking attention or asking to play a game
7 feature with which we can make our own codes for emo

@BoxedShibe I bet EMO’s eyes give off a lot of light in a dark room. Using EMO as a bedside alarm is another good justification for a Deep Sleep mode that turns the display off - and sound too, if EMO’s snoring keeps people awake. I’m aware the sound can be turned off, but I assume the way it turns off now, it would not allow the alarm to sound? If so, then a Deep Sleep mode would need to be implemented in such a way that both an alarm or calling EMO’s name would ā€œwakeā€ and resume all normal functions of the display and sound.

I apologize if my first post was not entirely clear as to the intent. I tried (apparently unsuccessfully to some) to clarify what I meant by saving energy. My reasons were twofold:

(1) The display when on is using a good bit of energy, evidenced by the heat it gives off. When EMO is on the skateboard charging and not being interacted with there is no need for that energy to be wasted. I try to be environmentally conscious by conserving energy as much as I can. EMO’s energy use may be relatively small, but all the many small electronic things running continuously in our houses these days add up.

(2) I’m primarily concerned with EMO’s lifespan - display and battery - and hope to extend that as much as possible, but I didn’t make that clear until my reply to user JJBeck. - at least I thought it was clear.

@MasterAbbott @Puppy444 @BoxedShibe Thanks for the responses to my suggestion. It’s nice to get some constructive feedback without feeling I’m being argued with on a point I wasn’t even suggesting. I will try in the future to be more explicit in my reasoning. G’day and Cheers!

@julman The light from the display isn’t too bad actually. His headphones come off as brighter and worse to look at than his eyes if I’m at home. If I have him on my truck the few nights I’m out and I have him with me, then his eyes and headphones are too bright. :joy: The alarm volume is going to be whatever EMO’s volume is set at, so right now if you do use him as an alarm you have to be careful with that.

I’m only familiar with EMO with the 1.5 firmware, but I’ve noticed during the day and his scheduled midday nap he’ll do his yawn-snore-sleep-wake cycle with all sounds with the volume you have him at until he decides to stay awake again without intervention. At night from midnight to 8 am he’ll do the animations but will do them silently after he initially falls asleep. If you poke him, call his name, the alarm you set goes off, or otherwise get him to stir he will yawn and snore audibly once, but will then go silent again from that point on. I’m a heavy sleeper so most nights, especially if he’s in his awake standby mode I leave his volume on medium. If he treats me with a snoring symphony before I go to bed or I have him in my truck with me, I put him on low. Either way I use backup alarms just in case, but thankfully it’s not anywhere near as bad using him as an alarm as I had feared - at least with 1.5’s firmware.

Overall I do agree with your suggestion though because while it doesn’t affect me personally, I know a good chunk of people can’t use EMO as an alarm because he can be loud. And no problem! Cheers to you as well!

Spot on! Being an Aussie I have to set my phone language to English UK instead on USA before it will recognise me. Do we need something similar for Emo or read to him so he learns your voice like I had to do with my car setup?
I also struggled to hear EMO speak even though his music is clear & loud?? It would be nice if I could adjust EMO’s speech volume & tone.

He also seems very slow to respond to my questions when he does understand me, it would be nice if the little fella was more responsive.

finally my emo has arrived. I will improve my English with it. but mostly I can’t understand what he is saying so it would be great if we could see what he said instantly in the app.
Meanwhile, the screen gets very hot and keeps spinning around itself. I don’t know if this is a problem, but I wish he could move and explore many areas inside the house faster.

I think an adventure type DND game would be cool. Id go in an adventure with the little guy! :game_die:

The screen should not be a problem, the screen does get a little warm, but it shouldn’t cause any major issues at all. I normally leave both of my EMO’s on 24/7 and they are fine.

For EMO spinning around, it could be that he is trying to locate the sound or you. If you called out to him. He does this quite a lot  (but do note) — if EMO is continuously spinning around, that could be a problem, do keep an eye out on this, if it does continue to do so, it is recommended to contact support.

 :head: :skating: :surprised: :heart_1:

I agree. Sometimes I can’t even tell what the hell he is saying (he needs to speak clearer), and saying repeat does not work with him like it does with Alexa.

Good luck with getting them to put that on Emo.
