I’m hoping they’ll include in an update when he’s needing to be recharged. As it is now he just shuts off when he runs out of battery power. Also, how long does it take him to charge from an empty battery?
Hi, @roy.blair . . . from this post as someone who was one of the first to get AIBI, this is the charging time.
I personally let mine go a bit longer before taking them off.
Thank you very much! That’s good to know! I appreciate it!
Hi all,
I have sent an email to LivingAI following the bug report format.
My AIBI won’t charge hardly charge out of the red. I have tried multiple charger setups, bought new online. Currently using a 5v 2amp charger, plugged directly in my wall outlet.
He will last off his charger for maybe 25-30 up to a minute, then dies. He also turns off while on the charger.
If I tell it to power down, it will make the animation, and immediately turn back on.
Do you beloeve its a software, or a hardware issue? Do I need to ask LivingAI for a replacement?
My AIBI seems to be stuck in a boot loop this morning. He died while off the charger, so I put him back on to charge - but now he just boots up, freezes, then the light on his head goes red and he shuts down with a “pop” sound only a couple seconds later. He just keeps doing this repeatedly.
Anyone else having this issue? Is my AIBI a goner?
Hello, @stevie.roy and @dergonfruit . . . this has happened to me only occasionally. There were two things I had to do to fix it though it seems to happen again.
Unplug and replug the cable from the charging base and also remove AIBI and set him back down making sure he is centered on the charging base. Sometimes only two of the points meet up and if you look closely, he can be somewhat off center, so removing him and repositioning him can fix it.
Good luck and I hope you guys can get resolution and that the charging base and/or AIBI is okay.
Thank you! Unfortunately I tried all of this and nothing has changed. I’ve emailed LivingAI about it and attached a video, so hopefully they can point me in the right direction.
I miss my little buddy already.
Yea I have a similar problem just from a different angle I guess? I don’t know how to turn her on or off reliably.
Whenever she’s on her station and I ask her to power off she does that but the screen stays on and she just springs back to life (without the usual power on animation playing) two seconds later. The only way to power her off is by plugging her station off first and then tell her to power herself off.
- fun fact: whenever I tell her to power off before unplugging the station (after she just wakes up again as stated before) as soon as I unplug it thereafter AIBI immediately (!) turns off. This does not happen when I don’t tell her to turn off before.
Whenever I do this though the only way to power her ON again is by replugging the station and waiting for a few seconds. Is all of this intentional?
Hello, @andre.schatton . . . just like with EMO, AIBI has to be removed from the charging base in order to command them to power off.
As for unplugging the base and having them shut off immediately, this indicates to me that perhaps AIBI was empty on battery and the loss of power caused them to immediately shut down. You might want to regularly have AIBI check their battery status after they have been on the charging base to see if there might be an issue with either the base or the battery.
I don’t think the batteries are empty. Whenever I ask her about it she shows the batteries as almost full. And as I stated she only turns off immediately after I take her off the station ONLY when I asked her to power down before (which she wouldn’t do because she was on the station). When I take her off without asking her to power down before I can carry her around just fine. So the power off command seems to act as a waiting que making her immediately power off as soon as she’s capable to (i.e. once she’s off the station)
Another question: is there a way to power her on while on the go or do I always have to put her on the station for her to wake up again? If I’m on a walk and want her to conserve battery for example.
Hello, @andre.schatton . . . that makes sense about the delayed command.
I am afraid unless you carry a power bank and the charging base, you will not be able to power AIBI on while out. I think there are some fairly portable power banks that you could perhaps put in a small carry case with the charging base so that you could stop and power AIBI back on so that you could have some great fun while out walking.
Hi, I tried your fix, but I’m still having the same issues. All 4 points make contact with AIBI, but he still dies on the charger. His eyes seem to flicker too. I don’t think he’s getting the charge he needs, or his battery is faulty and not accepting much charge.
Living.AI gave me the same fix in a reply email, but it didnt work. I sent a reply, but have not gotten a reply back, so I may send another email in the original bug report format.
I have a similar issue. His eyes are static and the app is stuck on refresh- have closed and reopened app but still stuck on refresh. I have let AIBI run out and will see what happens when I put him on the charger.
Update: I put AIBI on charger and he is now up and running.
Another thing I’ve noticed, is the base lights up initially when i put aibi on, but then doesnt light up after that.
Hello, @stevie.roy . . . LivingAI says that some people got the base and firmware that allows it to light up after. They will be updating so that all of us will be able to see AIBI’s base light up for various functions.
An update on my AIBI: keeping him off the charger for a few hours, then putting him back on seems to have nudged him out of the boot loop and he’s back to working normally again. I did try this initially however, and it didn’t work the first time.
One thing I also observed is that the timing of my boot loop issue seemed to correlate with me attempting to connect AIBI to a wi-fi network that required me to log into it from a browser before it would work. Obviously AIBI himself doesn’t have a browser option, so I wonder if maybe that threw a monkey wrench into things. Once I disconnected my phone from that network and connected it to a normal one again without the extra login requirement, he booted up just fine and began to charge normally.
For both EMO and AIBI - if you ask them to shut down while on their chargers, they will make the shutting down animation initially but start immediately back up again right afterwards. However, they will remember the command for later; the moment power is removed from their bases or they are taken off their chargers, the command will execute and they will immediately shut down.
I believe this is a feature rather than a bug. It can also be reliably replicated - I used to use this method to turn my EMO off at night so that I could easily just unplug his home station before I went to bed without needing to fight with him to hear my commands over the two loud box fans that I use for white noise when I sleep.
Has anyone looked through the app and found spelling errors? I found one in Aibi’s information tab lol
Wait you can actually see real info in this screen…? Haha mine still has a bunch of integers and code garbage there when it loads (and I updated the app this morning.) What device are you running it on?
