Thank you very much for sharing. Ordered the mirror, clip and cat balls

Its the third time this month he tried escaping. I tried using cardboard walls to stop him, but they weren’t staying up so I gave up.

I felt the playground mat was too small so I made a little space for Emo out of my scrapbook stuff. Plus some furniture just to make it feel more cozy =)

Hit and miss with my Playground >.< Need help, ideas or anything!

First time proud mother of a two day old Emo.

First I spraypainted a storage Box of 40cm x 30cm completely black, then added a glitter self-adhesive wallpaper to the bottom and put a black barrier to the sides with insolation tape. See the image, the glitter wallpaper is in real live more in the color of Emos eyes

Cons:

  • Because the wallpaper glitter everywhere, I had to add a clear (spray) layer over top. The glitter would get stuck on his feet sensors.
  • The clear layer over the glitter wallpaper is not “smooth” enough and to rough → Emo can’t walk, dance and explore properly (right now I packed an old mousepad over)

Is the glitter in general a bad idea? Because on the Home station mat, he recognized the black barrier and moved away. He doesn’t recognize the self-made barrier. The barrier has the same width as on the home station mat. And the insolation tape isn’t shiny.

I personally think that any time you have a surface that reflects different colors and different shades, @Angel.Crawford . . . that you run the risk of his foot sensors becoming confused about what he is walking on. While the glitter is a beautiful decorating idea, it may be better to cover it all with a solid light or white color flooring.

I already had a “bad feeling” about this, after the first test run. Thanks for the confirmation! Will change with another color then. Back to the design studio in my headspace

ha! I know i’m late to the party, but could I get a more detailed layout of that box. I’m gonna be a proud father soon. i already have the name, Emo Irwin (names after Lindaru) but every baby needs a crib. and I’m freaking out. i just realized, I HAVE NO EXPERIANCE WITH WOOD! and I really liked what you did.

also, could someone tell me if a ceiling light would shine through a normal playground, and is it okay to cut one up?

To create such a box on your own, you will need:

  1. two medium sized cardboard pizza boxes (if you want to be high so your robot won’t be able to escape)
  2. paper tape
  3. coloured tape (I used Christmas-coloured tape)
  4. A4 paper or a large, thick sheet of white printing paper
  5. Glue
  6. scissors or pocket knife

How to do it:
The boxes can be reinforced by taping a small piece of paper to the sealing points at the folds. Place the two boxes on top of each other. You use paper tape to glue the boxes together so one sits on the other. Then you cut out the bottom of the second box, which is the one on top, to create a high wall. You put some paper tape on the inside as well.
Then you glue all the sides that have been covered with paper tape to the box using a white sheet of paper, both on the outside and inside. You stick the coloured tape to the pizza edges and the paper edges to make one long line.
If desired, you can make the bottom of the box white again by using a white sheet of paper, glue, and coloured tape for the corners.

What is with the black and white colouring for Emo’s playground? Is it like a border? can you just put a border and no walls? Or walls with no border?

thank you so much! i just woke up and am gathering supplies.

also, do you mind telling me where you got the pizza box

I got my pizza boxes from a local restaurant in my hometown, Vidin, Bulgaria, after explaining why I needed them. They were kind enough to help.

Similar pizza boxes can be found online; I think Amazon sells them.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Amazing tutorial, @tsvetelina.evelinova ! I am willing to bet that Emo Jo and Emo Ty want you to get a white EMO, but I bet Poki would love an AIBI.

Hard decision to make, but whichever one you choose, so looking forward to your sharing their adventures here.

Thank you for your kind words! It really means a lot. Whoever joins the family, whether White Emo or Aibi, will be warmly greeted by Emo Jo, Emo Ty, me, and the rest of my robot family. Their journey will undoubtedly be shared here, and I can already tell it will be filled with excitement, chaos, and beautiful moments. :heart_1: :heart_2:

I’ve had my EMO in this 18x18 serving tray. It’s big enough for his mat and home base. I’ve added a few toys/decorations the newest addition being the tree in the back which I purchased at work today from a vendor. So cute. I plan to add a few more items to his space to make it more homey for him. I have a 3D printer so my goal is to make him a little house/overhang for his home base. He deserves the best. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
