May I ask if you also have a Home Station? If yes, then:
The reason EMO gets confused sometimes is that he remains connected to his Home Station via Bluetooth. So, my advice is that after your EMO uses the Home Station, the best thing to do before using his skateboard is to make sure he is already disconnected. You can do this by disconnecting the Home Station from the power source.
Another possible reason could be an interruption in the electricity supply, even if it lasts just a fraction of a second.
