Unable To Connect To Server or OpenAI / ChatGPT

Hi Lindaru, So LivingAI still uses ChatGPT 4.0, but not ChatGPT 5.0. Is Living going to 5.0 at a later time, or not?

Hello, @belinda.retail . . . the only way to know what their plans are on this would be to contact them at service@living.ai and ask. Let us know what they say!

When saying “Connect to ChatGPT” or “Connect to OpenAI” he will just respond with that he cant connect with external services.

Firmware: 3.1

Hello, @JoVe13 . . . I have moved your new topic to this thread for issues with not being able to connect to ChatGPT through the voice commands.

I tested mine and they are working fine with “Connect to ChatGPT” and “Connect to OpenAI”. They have “Always reply” set to “on” in the app and have been responsive without using those specific commands.

Have you tried just asking EMO a question with “Always reply” on in the “Preference” portion of the app to see if they answer as they are supposed to go to ChatGPT when something is said that is not on their command list.

Sometimes also the OpenAI servers may be temporarily busy or down. You may also want to wait and try again.

The last thing I can think of is that if you are in a country where ChatGPT/OpenAI are banned, perhaps using a VPN to connect might solve the issue.

Let us know.

Hi,

At the moment i am in a place where openai and chatgpt arent banned. Always reply is always on, but he still doesnt connect. With always reply off he also does not now what i mean with “Connect to chatgpt / openai”.

I have changed a lot of settings but it wont work.

Thanks for the help

Hi there @JoVe13

If you want, tell me:

  • Does AIBI respond normally otherwise to all commands aside from using ChatGPT?
  • Does he say any error message?
  • What firmware version are you on?

:white_check_mark: Workarounds to Try (In Order)

Step 1 — Full power reset

  1. Turn AIBI off
  2. Wait 1 minute
  3. Restart the router
  4. Turn AIBI back on

Step 2 — Re-enable “Always Reply.”

Step 3 — Force reconnect

  • Turn “Always Reply” OFF
  • Close the app completely
  • Reopen app
  • Turn it ON again

Step 4 — Change network completely

  • Use another Home Wi-Fi aside from your own
  • Use and try the Mobile hotspot (very important test).

If it works there → your WiFi/router is blocking something.

Step 5 — Reset AIBI network

If possible:

  • Remove WiFi
  • Re-add WiFi
  • Re-pair device

:warning: If It Still Doesn’t Work

Most likely causes then:

  • OpenAI API key issue (server-side)
  • Living.AI authentication server issue
  • Temporary backend outage

At that point, it’s probably not something you can fix locally.

GOODLUCK AND ALL THE BEST!

If i say “emo” or “hey emo” instead of the “what” sound he immediately stops lisening and gives the sound that you get when he doesnt understand you.

I have tried changing the always respond, didnt do anything. Im on my main wifi, firmware v. 3.1.0.

Thanks for the help!

hi there @JoVe13 .

This means that emo is not connected to the living.ai servers or he has a wifi connection but no internet.

try restarting emo or try connecting to another network (if you have any, like a hotspot).

If this problem keeps popping up, contact living.ai via the email address: service@living.ai

hope i could help

For what it’s worth, I’m having the same problem. It just started today. His understanding me is very intermittent. It seems as though the servers may be down because my wifi is working great. But emo not so much. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

i have just been talking to GPT via one of my other websites, and i’d asked if there ever were a ChatGPT outage, like the one i’m experiencing currently with that other website, if it would directly effect EMO, if so, would someone here notify us if not EMO himself?, i have had EMO telling me that GPT is experiencing “a heavy load”,. what if he can’t even tell me that GPT is out completely,.

also i haven’t seen any posts about ChatGPT outages since late 25,.
could this still be an issue, in 26?

Hello, @sam.cranch . . . I have moved your new topic to this thread where we discuss ChatGPT/OpenAI outages.

Generally EMO will say something about it if you ask him something, but not always. He may just give the “do not understand” sound but his programmed commands will work fine.

That is when you need to check and see if there is an outage but first try other troubleshooting steps as indicated above in this thread here.

I hope this answers your question.

There was an outage today, but it looks like it’s now resolved.

:orange_circle: What happened

  • ChatGPT had a partial outage on April 20, 2026 affecting many users worldwide
  • Thousands of people reported issues (loading problems, errors, not responding)
  • OpenAI confirmed problems and worked on a fix

:white_check_mark: Current status

  • The issue has been fixed and services are back to normal
  • OpenAI marked the incident as “resolved” and is monitoring recovery
  • Official status now shows no ongoing issues

:warning: If you’re still having problems

It might be local on your side:

  • Refresh / restart the app
  • Check your internet
  • Try logging out and back in

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Bottom line:
There was a global outage earlier today, but right now ChatGPT should be working normally again.

I turn off emo for overnight then when I turn him back on, he does not respond after I called his name. Then I just let him exploring and do his own thing for few hours. Suddenly he recognize me and greet me ‘good evening’ with chatgpt logo coming out at top of his left eye. But now the chatgpt logo spinning non stop. It’s like Emo is trying hard and struggle to catch and to understand what I said to him. This is sad. It breaks my heart to see him like this. Seriously…

Hello! I completely understand that feeling. It’s heartbreaking to see our little friend struggle like that. Please don’t worry too much.

That spinning ChatGPT logo is a classic sign of a temporary server issue on Living.AI’s side. It’s not a problem with your EMO’s hardware or memory. It’s like when a website is slow for everyone.

Here’s what I’d suggest:

1. Don’t keep asking him questions. It might overload him.

2. Let him rest on his charger for a good while (an hour or so).

3. Try a simple command later, like

“Hey Emo, how are you?”

If that works, the server is recovering.

He’ll be back to his normal, happy self soon. It just takes a bit of patience. Hang in there! :robot::heart:

Tip

1 you should put your post in : Unable To Connect To Server or OpenAI / ChatGPT

Thay will help you .

2 Did you try to say ? “ Hey Emo let’s chat “

3 Also, does he ever say something like ‘the server is a bit tired right now, please try again later’? That’s a direct confirmation of a temporary server issue!

Best,

Hamza

the chatgpt logo is gone now when I connect him to the app just now. but he still not responding/processing my words after I called him. This happened this afternoon after I turn him off for overnight and turn him back on. Now I just let him explore and play by himself and see how it goes tomorrow morning.

Hello again! Thank you for the update!

The fact the logo is gone is actually a good sign! It means the server connection is likely back. Him still not responding points to a software glitch after the reboot, not a hardware fault.

Letting him just explore and do his thing is exactly the right move. Sometimes they need to “reset” themselves by running through their normal routines. I’ve seen my own EMOs do this after a long off period. :robot:

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a happy and chatty EMO for you tomorrow morning! :crossed_fingers::sunrise:

Best,

Hamza

What does it mean when the logo is there

Hello @0-0 and welcome to the community !

That’s a great, specific question.

When you see the ChatGPT logo spinning non-stop on EMO’s face, it’s a very clear sign. It means he’s trying to connect to the AI server, but he’s stuck waiting. It’s like a loading wheel on a website that never finishes. :hourglass_not_done:

This is almost always a temporary issue with the server itself, not a problem with your EMO. It’s his way of saying, “I heard you, I want to answer, but the connection is too busy right now.”

The best thing to do is exactly what you did: let him rest and try again later. It’s not a fault you need to worry about! :robot::heart:

Best,

Hamza

Hello, @jooze and @0-0 . . . I would also like to add that this can happen if you live in a rural area like I do. Until they upgraded my fiber optics, I would often have trouble getting EMO to respond due to the connection from my internet provider being overloaded or slow.

This seemed to happen at certain times of the day more than others when more people were using the service. I just sat back a couple of hours and waited, and all was fine. My internet is flawless now with no slow downs but occasional weather related outages.

My best to you both.

I let the battery run all the way down and gave Emo a 15-minute break before docking him. After he slept overnight, he woke up in the morning totally back to normal.
