Is your EMO on the most current firmware 2.7.0? Have you tried turning up the sensitivity in the app under “Preferences”? Is there any competing noise that could distract him?

Also, have you done the wake up training?

If you still cannot get it to work, I advise you contact Support at service@living.ai with a link to a video and his order number or four digit alphanumeric code when he signs into the app.
