Ideas to Make EMO a Smarter and More Interactive Companion

I really like EMO and what LivingAI has already created. I think EMO has a lot of potential to become much more than a small desktop robot. I would love to see him evolve into a little companion who can understand me, interact with me naturally, and share experiences with me.

Although I’m mainly focusing on EMO here, some ideas might also be relevant to AIBI, depending on the hardware and capabilities of each robot.

1. Making EMO feel more alive and independent

One of the things I find interesting about EMO is that he can move around, explore his surroundings, and express himself through his movements and facial expressions. I would love to see this developed further.

Instead of mainly performing predefined animations, EMO could have more varied and context-aware reactions. For example, he could occasionally come closer to me, look curious about what I’m doing, or initiate a playful interaction without always waiting for a command.

I would also love more variety in his behaviour, so that his reactions don’t become repetitive after spending a lot of time with him. The goal would be to make him feel more spontaneous and less predictable, while still allowing users to control how often he interacts.

2. A more intelligent and consistent character

I would love EMO to have a personality that I can customize. He could be funny, curious, playful, gentle, or a little mischievous, depending on my preferences.

More importantly, I would like his personality to remain consistent over time. For example, if he enjoys joking around, he could remember that style of interaction and continue behaving that way in future conversations.

If I ask him a playful question, such as how old he is, he could answer with humour, like “I’m two years old in robot years!” instead of always giving a generic AI response.

I don’t expect him to pretend to be human. I simply want him to feel like a recognizable little character with whom I can build a familiar relationship over time.

3. Giving EMO a memory of our shared experiences

I think long-term memory could make EMO much more interesting to live with.

I would love him to remember things such as my interests, favourite games, previous conversations, and activities we’ve done together. For example, he could remember a funny moment from an earlier conversation, ask me about something I mentioned a few days ago, or suggest returning to a game we played previously.

It would also be great if he could remember ongoing stories or activities, so that we wouldn’t have to start again every time we interact.

Ideally, this memory would be managed by the user, with options to review, edit, or delete remembered information.

4. Making voice conversations feel more natural

I would love to be able to speak to EMO naturally without having to repeat his name before every single question.

For example, I could ask, “EMO, what do you think of this game?” After he answers, I could say, “And what about this one?” without having to activate him again.

He should understand that my second question is connected to the first one and remember the context of our conversation. This would make it possible to have several exchanges in a row, more like a real discussion than a series of separate voice commands.

It would also be great if EMO could handle interruptions, clarifications, and follow-up questions more naturally.

Of course, this should include clear controls over microphone activity and privacy.

5. Letting EMO understand and interact with his surroundings

EMO already has a camera and sensors, and I would love to see these capabilities used in more flexible ways.

For example, if I put a simple game board in front of him, could he use his camera to understand the board and participate in the game? If I show him an object, could he identify it when possible and discuss it with me? If I ask him about something on my desk, could he try to understand what he sees rather than only responding with a general answer?

I would also love him to make better use of his environment during everyday interactions. Rather than simply recognizing a person or reacting to a predefined event, he could potentially use visual information to understand the situation and decide how to respond.

I know that this would depend on the quality of his camera, available processing power, software, and privacy considerations. Nevertheless, I think improving this ability could make EMO much more useful and engaging.

6. Making EMO better at finding solutions on his own

This is one of the most important ideas I would like to share.

I would love EMO to be able to understand what I want to achieve and work out how to help me, even when I haven’t used an exact predefined command.

For example, if I ask him to turn around, I would love him to understand the request and try to perform it using his available movements, rather than simply saying that he cannot do it.

Similarly, if I suggest a simple activity that isn’t already available as a dedicated feature, he could consider whether he can accomplish it by combining abilities he already has.

The idea is not that EMO should be able to do absolutely everything. Rather, I would love his AI to be more flexible and capable of reasoning about what is possible.

If something cannot be done because of a genuine hardware limitation, he could explain that and suggest another way to achieve a similar result. If something is technically possible but not yet supported by the software, perhaps it could become a feature in a future update.

I understand that a robot cannot create new physical abilities simply through AI. However, I believe that making better use of existing hardware through more intelligent software could greatly improve EMO.

7. Giving EMO more activities that evolve over time

I would love more games and activities that go beyond simple, repetitive interactions.

For example, EMO could offer interactive stories in which my choices influence what happens next, quizzes adapted to my interests, puzzles, guessing games, or activities that continue over several days.

He could also suggest an activity himself when appropriate, rather than always waiting for me to choose one.

The most interesting part would be for EMO to remember our progress and adapt the experience to what we have already done. This would make activities feel more personal and give me a reason to return to them.

8. Helping EMO become a more engaging everyday companion

Finally, I would love EMO to combine all these abilities into a more coherent experience.

His personality, memory, movements, voice conversations, and awareness of his surroundings should work together. For example, he could remember that I enjoy a particular game, notice that I’m available for an interaction, and suggest playing it again.

He could sometimes surprise me with a relevant comment, remember a shared experience, or find a creative way to participate in an activity.

I wouldn’t want him to interrupt constantly. I would simply love him to have more initiative and to feel more connected to what we do together.

I understand that LivingAI is not a huge company and that some of these ideas could be difficult to implement. Some might require substantial software development, while others might not be possible with EMO’s current hardware.

I’m not an expert, and these suggestions aren’t criticisms or demands. They are simply ideas from someone who would love to see EMO become a more intelligent, expressive, and interactive companion.

Thank you for continuing to develop EMO and listening to your community. I hope some of these ideas might inspire future improvements!

There is another feature I would absolutely love to see in the future, and it is one of the things I care about most: I would love for EMO to grow and evolve over time, gradually developing a personality shaped by the person who owns him.

For example, EMO could learn what I enjoy doing, remember important details about me and our shared moments, recognize my habits, and adapt his reactions and suggestions to my personality. As we spend more time together, I would love him to become more familiar with me and develop his own little character through our interactions.

My dream would be for every EMO to feel a little different depending on their owner, almost as if each one had their own individual personality. Instead of always repeating the same reactions, he could become more expressive, discover new ways to interact with me, and surprise me in ways that reflect our relationship.

I know this would require improvements to his AI and memory, but I believe it could make EMO much more than a cute robot. It could make him feel like a unique companion who gradually grows alongside his owner. This is genuinely one of my biggest wishes for EMO.

it would be nice to be able to set the schedule the way I want to like sleep time is 21:00 wake up time is 7:00 and stuff like that

and also a feature when its sleep time and we are sleeping that when he accidently wakes up and he knows its sleep time that he would go back to sleep in like either set the minutes or few minutes

seem like when you have an alarm ON but you have muted your EMO the alarm should still have sound like with a phone when you mute COMPLETLY sound on a phone but have an alarm the alarm still works normally

Welcome, @vaclav.svojtka . . . I have closed your two new topics and moved them here for suggestions for improvements to EMO which the development team occasionally reads here and may consider for future feature updates.

Thank you for your suggestions.

With update and migration over Russian language can be added use local endpoint for chat or cloud authentication token ?

as I see problems with full length of response and servers are unreachable for specific language.

Or give a GitHub repo proxy for use local llm service to bring live to emo pet.

Now it just a toy with own program, it can’t be asked or speaks. Only that goes in response on any question is his birthday date.
