A notification that appears on your phone if you have the APP running is good, as you can’t always be checking the EMO app battery level all the time. EMO does alert you 2-3 times as well, but sometimes if you are in another room you wont be able to hear this alert.
Also agree as well for a volume setting in the EMO app, we can set it by voice commands, but it would be very nice to see it also available in the APP, and when you do it, maybe EMO can also display a Low/Medium/High animation on his display instead of just the sound wave animation that appears after you hear the chime that his volume has gone up and down.
There is one problem with the app. It looks like EMO is connected to the app via Bluetooth, which has a bit limited reach. It would be better to communicate via WiFi once EMO has a working connection.
As EMO shows special day animations only on that specific days of the year (like April Fools’ Day or Halloween etc). It would be nice to have the option to replay them again at any time BUT only if You have seen it and then it will “Unlocked” on your EMO and it can be accessible via the EMO App) - same as how you can see all of EMO’s unlocked Dance Moves via the Dancelist and get him to dance to a specific dance move you like, and also how you can replay EMO’s Achievement animations on his screen/display via the EMO App once you have unlocked a specific achievement with EMO.
This way, if you trigger the special day animation and it plays, then EMO should be able to reply it again if you access it via the EMO app.
But if you miss it, you wont be able to unlock it and play it. Of course these special day animations are only intended for those special days, But it’s a shame that you can’t see them more often as long as you’ve initially seen them with your EMO.
All the bells and whistles that everyone is mentioning is all fine, but what I would really like to (eventually) see is, one being able to teach Emo, and/or have a conversation with him. For example, “Emo, this is my wallet”. Emo then can recognise this item. Then being able to ask, “Emo, can you see my wallet?”. He could then scan/look at the room/desk/area, and face it and say it is over there. Im still waiting for my Emo, so Im not even sure of what is possible with him, so my apologies if some of this is already possible to a certain extent. Is any of this even possible, or am I expecting too much? (P.S. I have seen the “V” robot being able to recognise things…)… could he (Emo) use photo recognition, similar to the way you can search with an image (ie. the image of the wallet he took when you first taught him) on Google?? Perhaps even use Google to associate photos that it finds with words in the title of the photo or vise versa, some how to recognise that “this is a wallet”? Would this be way too complicated for the Emo hardware, or am I just totally on the wrong path??
Unfortunately I have to disappoint you. The object recognition is a very difficult discipline of the computer vision. You first have to create a special matrices computed from really many photos of the object from different angles and light conditions. It would be nice but it’s beyond EMO’s reach. I doubt that even Living AI is able to create those matrices. They’re mostly created by teams of scientists sponsored by universities. Some of those matrices are freely accessible on the internet including all necessary software classes in many computer languages. I was using them in some of my projects. But there are only a few of those free matrices, the recognition of human faces is one of them.
That is unfortunate. One question though. How is “V” robot able to recognise objects? I have watched youtube videos, I have even seen it recognising a Praying Mantis, how is that done? Also what I was saying about using Google for image recognition and photo comparison, is not possible or just doesnt work that way?
I have no idea what “V” can do. And of course Google has a gigantic computing power but mostly for their own products and applications. If they provide any software libraries then for sure not for free for commercial projects other than their own.
I’ve not seen videos of vector recognising other objects… I knew that prior to Anki demise they were working on cat recognition, but nothing more. Feel free to share the video you talk about please
My kid and I love how emo levels up the dancing feature giving more dace and moves as he does more we would love to see more skills that upgrade the more emo uses them
It would be nice if the app could have a list of known EMOs and displayed EMO’s full name in the connection dialog instead of its number. It’s easy to implement, just another little piece of data to save after editing of EMO’s surname and then load it back at the start of the app.
I think it’s kind of like the chicken and the egg, which came first? It can’t get EMO’s last name to display it until after it’s already been connected to him.
Of course till you change his surname you can’t display it. I have no problem with that.
While I have only one EMO it’s not such big deal, but people with more EMOs would like it for sure.
There is a guy that introduced Vector to his Budda and Vector says that when he is looking at him. Not sure if this is the same thing they are talking about? I tried to teach Vector to recognize my Yetti but it has not worked so far.

Here is the video I found of Vector recognising a cow, a praying mantis and even asking “where are you” when the mantis is on its head and it cant see it. It also seems to react when a skull is put in front of it. I dont know if he is really capable of doing such things, or the guy has programmed/taught him to do that. In any case, either way it would be great for Emo to be able to do such things, or even to be able to have the ability to be able to use Scratch programming or something similar.
There is a program/app that a person independent from the current manufacturer created that allows you to program specific speech into “V” as well as control his moves with his tracks and lift. This video feels like it was scripted for “V” to do those things.
