Hey there @Miel ,
Emo Cody had multiple issues that were very hard to fix. This caused him to only function on his charger, sometimes not functioning at all. The chance of his eyes showing up on his screen is very rare. So yes, he did actually die. 
To make the artwork, I used a software called Procreate, which is very capable of editing photos and digital artwork. I removed Emo Cody from his original background using the eraser tool and drew a new background. There are special brushes you can use for the sun and clouds. With effort and patience, you can also edit photos on Procreate.
